Here’s where you can find the answers to some of our more frequently asked questions.
Is cedar the best wood for my outdoor sign?
Yes, cedar is one of the most durable woods available. It naturally resists insects, fungi, and is moisture resistant. Cedar should last for years and years, even in the harshest climates. Plus, we seal your sign with a generous coat of waterproofing sealant to protect it even further.
Wilsons… or… Wilson’s?
There’s no wrong answer here. Just tell us how you want it.
Do you put a finish coat on my cedar sign?
Yes, on our cedar signs, we apply a generous coat of a waterproofing sealant. This will help preserve your sign for several years.
How often do I need to refinish my cedar sign?
Just like a deck or most other real wood, you’ll probably want to apply a fresh coat of waterproofing sealant after a few years.
What are my choices for paint colours on the carved areas?
At this time we only offer black or natural for the carved areas.
How do I hang or mount my sign?
We offer a few choices when it comes to hanging your sign. For our cedar signs we recommend eyehooks (not included, but can be purchased at any hardware store), or you can simply screw your sign directly to a tree, building, post or deck railing. For our indoor signs, triangle hooks are installed on the back of the sign for easy hanging.
Can I choose my own font?
Sure… we have several fonts to choose from, but keep in mind that not all fonts carve well. Check out our font samples page, we’re sure you’ll find something you like.
Note: not all the fonts on the font samples page are currently available, so if you choose to have a different font than the one shown on our sample sign, please choose 3 different ones
What do you mean by “carved sign”?
As opposed to laser burning or wood burning, the detail on our signs is carved with a router and various router bits to get the desired look.
What is the difference between laser engraving and carving?
Laser engraving burns or etches the wood, while carving removes the material.
How long does it take to get my sign?
A lot depends on you. If you respond to our emails in a timely manner with either an approval or a design change, we should be able to complete your sign in 4 to 6 weeks from start to finish. During the holiday season, times may vary.
How do I pay for my sign?
You can purchase your sign from our Shop page on this website. Our shop accepts Paypal, Credit Cards, or e-transfers. You’ll need to pay for your order when you place it.
